Class Act for Stage Effects

21 June 2011

Theo Papenfus from Stage Effects has been appointed technical supplier, for the second year running, for Class Act, a show broadcast on SABC 1 where contestants compete in an acting competition.   The set is absolutely vibrant and can be seen live on air every Saturday evening, with elimination shows every Monday at 19h00.   “I did the show last year and for this season Curious Pictures approached me again,” commented Theo. “I decided to juice it up a bit by adding some beams and the client has been chuffed.”     On the static lighting grid, Theo has added 4 x Robe 575ATs and 4 x Robin 300E Spots.  Positioned at the back of the set for beam work are 8 x Robe 600E Beams. Two Martin Mac 600s create effect lighting at an entrance on the side of the stage, while four of the same fixtures are used for backlighting the contestants. In addition, the rig includes 22 x 2kw Fresnels, 8 x 1kW Fresnels, 4 x ETC Source Fours 15-30 degree Zoom, 18 x ETC Parnell, 10 x PAR64, 4 x PAR 56, 10x LED Pars, T2 24 Way Art 2000 AVO Rack and other dimmers making up 48 channels and 3 x Jem 24/7 haze machines. For control, Theo has used an Avolites 2008 Pearl.     (Above: Theo Papenful and Thapelo Baranye, Stage Effects)   We asked Theo if he still gets a thrill doing the work he does. “Of course,” he said. “It’s happening, it’s now. There’s nothing like the presence.”
