The AV Company Continues to Grow with L-Acoustics

The AV Company’s Antonio Jean Pierre (HOD Audio), Yan Margestein (Johannesburg branch manager) and Keagan Browning with DWR Distribution’s Richard Smith.

The AV Company had always dreamed of owning L-Acoustics. In 2023, they made their first purchase with a KARA II system. Now, the company has taken another step forward with its latest investment, which includes six KARA II, two KARA-ANGARMEX, one LA12X amplified controller, four KS28 subwoofers, four KS28PLA, one P1 processor and two 5XT enclosures, together with the necessary cabling and cases from DWR Distribution. The new equipment went straight out to an event.

The AV Company is one of those feel-good stories. Owner Craig Browning originally left Johannesburg for Durban, looking for a change of scenery, some waves and a little sunshine, and started his own technical rental company. It wasn’t long before his son, Keagan Browning, finished school and joined him, along with business partner Warren Loots.

While the move offered a different pace of life away from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg, the team didn’t take their foot off the accelerator. Today, they have branches in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, and the nice part is that they’ve managed to balance business growth with family life and a bit of golf on the side.

“Two years ago, we bought our first KARA II system, and it was a decision we made to grow the company into a premium brand,” Craig explains.

“We always wanted L-Acoustics, but financially, it wasn’t something that was available to us. It was also difficult to get until DWR Distribution took on the agency and opened up the opportunity for technical companies like ours, making it easier to own the system. And we just love owning this brand!” he shares.

KARA II delivers clear vocals, detailed sound and the definition needed to reproduce music accurately, even at high output levels. The system can be configured in different array sizes to suit different venues and audience capacities, making it a versatile rental investment. Its robust construction and integrated rigging system make it suitable for the demands of touring and rental work.

“KARA II is L-Acoustics’ most versatile box, but adding KS28 to the system is a wise choice, as it allows the system to be run in a 4-way configuration with flown SB18 and stacked KS28 for larger shows, said Richard Smith from DWR Distribution.

The latest also includes the KARA-ANGARMEX is a mechanical rigging accessory comprising two angle arm extensions for the L-Acoustics M-BUMP flying frame. It provides an additional 10° downward site angle for the bottom KARA II in stacked configurations.

Duncan Riley from DWR Distribution concludes, “We have great respect for The AV Company and the level of professionalism they put into each production they work on. It’s a great privilege to have sold L-Acoustics to them.”
