As both an emerging audio engineer and musician (guitarist), I understand the importance of delivering exceptional sound from both the technical and creative perspectives. Raised by a single mother as an only child, Maine’s journey is grounded in resilience, discipline, and a deep commitment to artistic excellence.
From an early age, Maine demonstrated exceptional musical ability, actively participating in and winning numerous talent competitions throughout her adolescence. Her artistry is defined by a distinctive fusion of smooth R&B vocals, delicate harmonies, and contemporary worldbeat influences, enriched by a subtle jazz and soul sensibility. Her sound is both soothing and intentional—crafted to inspire reflection, healing, and personal growth. This emotional resonance earned her the name “Maine” from supporters in Venda, who regard her as a “healer of the soul.”
Maine officially entered the music industry with the release of her debut single, Denial, on 19 September 2019, which was met with immediate audience appreciation. In 2020, she expanded her collaborative footprint, working with artists such as Lutroo Da Music and Cherubim, culminating in the release of her debut EP, Forgotten, on 1 October 2020. She continued to build her catalogue with Ocean Waves and Not So Cool in 2021, and has since shared stages with notable South African artists including Zonke, Mizo Phyll, Osome Feyn, and others.
Beyond music, Maine has established a strong presence in theatre and performance. In January 2022, she made her stage debut as a musician in Moruti Dhlamini’s Stevovo: The Puppeteer, a production that went on to receive a Standard Bank Ovation Award in July 2023 and earned a Naledi Award nomination in March 2026. That same year, she joined Malepa, one of Tembisa’s leading theatrical productions, where she underwent intensive training in voice, acting, and musical theatre. The production explores themes of cultural identity, marginalisation, and the tension between isolation and human connection.
Her performance portfolio further includes Mxolisi Masilela’s Adams Ale, a thought-provoking work that examines human origin, spirituality, and the relationship between humanity and elemental forces.
In parallel with her performance career, Maine has rapidly distinguished herself in the field of technical theatre, particularly in lighting design and production. Within her first year in technical lighting, she designed lighting for 32 productions, including the Zwakala Festival-winning play Blacksmith. She also served as Technical Director for the Hauntings Directors Festival, demonstrating strong leadership and production management capabilities.
Her technical expertise extends to large-scale events such as Tembisa Theatre Week, where she contributed as a lighting technician across up to 44 productions. Maine has collaborated with respected creatives including Leanetse Seekoe on 4 Cups at the Market Theatre and partnered with the National School of the Arts, designing lighting for 12 student showcase productions. She further expanded her professional scope as a Technical Assistant on Marabi, written and directed by Arthur Molepo.
Maine’s career reflects a rare duality: a committed performer and a highly skilled technical practitioner. Her ability to navigate both on-stage and behind-the-scenes roles positions her as a dynamic force within South Africa’s creative industry. I am an experienced Audio Engineer and AV Technician with over 8 years of professional experience in the live events and broadcast industry. Throughout my career at Sterling Productions, I have developed expertise in delivering high-quality technical solutions for corporate events, government conferences, live productions, and studio environments.
My primary specialization is live sound engineering, with extensive experience in FOH mixing through analogue and digital desks (Yamaha, Behringer, Midas, Allen & Heath), conference audio, and PA system design. I am trained in DMX lighting design and setup, although I have only worked on Avolite TitanOne software not a console. Live streaming production, camera operation including PTZ cameras, studio engineering and production, technical troubleshooting and problem solving.
