Tennis fans and the citizens of Turin, Italy, were treated to a twice-nightly visual extravaganza created for the 8-day 2025 ATP Finals, the high-profile season-ending event of the ATP Tour hosted at the Inalpi Arena. A fan village area was built in the square adjacent to the arena, created by brand experience agency Filmmaster Events and lit by Sergio Cattaneo from Milan-based CUE Design, using 40 x Robe iBOLTS.

In addition to being a meeting and information point, a showcase for official ATP merch plus a host of other tennis-related brands and activities, the fan village offered a wide variety of food stalls. This year โ the fifth time the ATP Finals has been staged in Turin โ tournament organisers also wanted to offer some quality pre-match entertainment that could be enjoyed by all who were waiting to filter into the arena to catch the tennis action.

Filmmaster Events, under the creative direction of Giulia Accatino and content designer Romain Sabella from TK2, storyboarded and produced the video content, which was played out on a massive 100-metre-wide by 8-metre-tall LED screen. They asked Sergio โ with whom they have worked on previous projects โ to design a high-impact lightshow to complement and support their visual narratives.
Sergio received the brief, and his first thought was that he needed a series of BIG beams, which needed to fulfil two roles. Firstly, to work with the visual show and create a sense of spectacle and excitement, and secondly, he needed a light source that could be seen from around the city and surrounding countryside.
He immediately thought of โฆ iBOLTS.

โIt was my first choice โฆ I mean really there is nothing else right now, I absolutely LOVE those fixtures!โ he declared, adding, โThey are the brightest and were therefore the best for this job.โ
Sergio was also basing his choice on the experience of two other projects using iBOLTS, albeit in much smaller quantities, and he was super-excited to be able to spec the 40 fixtures. โIt was imperative that these lights and the installation could be seen clearly from afar as well as enjoyed by everyone in the fan village. We really wanted to emphasise that this was a special event, having this major sporting fixture taking place in the heart of the city!โ
The power and quality of the iBOLT colours were also vital in enabling Sergioโs lightshow to generate the required energy and exhilaration. He used a lot of white, cyan โ the ATPโs corporate colour โ and yellow, which represented the tennis ball.
Sergio also needed a super-bright lightsource to combat the amount of ambient luminescence emitted by the video screen and make sure the beams still stood out.

He pre-programmed the shows โ one main show of 4 minutes long, plus a series of 30 and 50-second interstitials โ using Depence3, assisted by Alessandro Scotellaro in CUE Designโs studios. They then had one night on site for focus tweaking and finessing the lighting, which included one laser that was also part of the light show, together with 17 strategically deployed hazers!

The fan village lightshow had the desired effect. It drew people into the city, kept fans waiting for the next match amused and engaged, and with the beams and the video projections clearly visible from the surrounding hills, generated plenty of SoMe chatter, all helping to highlight the city as it hosted this world-famous sporting event.
Lighting for the fan village show was supplied via lighting vendor ATS Srl, with the iBOLTs sourced from Lucidiscena.
