Lighting designer, Grant Olivier, founder of Distinct Technical Solutions in Cape Town, has taken delivery of a grandMA3 light, joining his trusted grandMA3 onPC setup. The upgrade comes just in time for the busy corporate season in Cape Town, with exciting festival work also on the horizon. The sale was facilitated by Johnny Scholtz, who heads DWR Distribution’s Cape Town office.
“The MA Lighting platform, especially grandMA3, is so flexible,” says Grant. “I can go from a corporate awards evening to a large-scale festival with ease. The options and possibilities are just incredible.”

A long-time MA Lighting user, Grant is particularly impressed by the power of recipes, which allow him to adapt seamlessly to touring rigs or last-minute client requests for additional fixtures.
“This has been a dream come true,” he shares. “I started with a grandMA3 onPC Command Wing but soon realised I was outgrowing it. With shows becoming more complex, the grandMA3 light was the natural next step—offering the flexibility and power I need, with the option to expand. Another big factor was ensuring other operators and designers in Cape Town also had access to a grandMA3 console.”
Johnny Scholtz has seen Grant’s journey firsthand. “Grant is incredibly passionate about his craft and eager to learn,” Johnny shares. “He regularly attends training sessions and DWR events, and what he’s achieved with just the PC version has been remarkable. He’s handled everything from corporate shows to massive productions where he previously rented the grandMA3 light. Watching him grow from a young ‘lightie’ doing gigs in his early days to where he is now has been inspiring. He is truly a MA Lighting ambassador.”
