For Acoustic Star Events, supplying the full technical support for the Zee Nation Fest marked a defining moment in the company’s journey. Established in 2013 by Tshwane University of Technology graduate Katlego Masoga and University of Johannesburg’s graduate Khutso Kekana, Acoustic Star Events is poised for growth. It is not a coincidence that in their 11th year in business, the company managed one of the biggest events since it opened its doors where nearly 11 000 people were in attendance.
The true magic of the pair’s partnership is that Katlego brings a strong technical knowledge and experience which he gained by working for companies such as Sound Corp and MGG. Khutso on the other hand, has a strong business acumen having worked for one of the top four banks in South Africa. This is what makes them a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
Having worked with DJ Zinhle for several years and knowing her high standards, they were up for the challenge to deliver an epic Festival. “When we got the brief about Zee Nation, we didn’t take it lightly,” explains Katlego. DJ Zinhle always wants the best for her brand, and with this in mind, we knew we had to deliver.

Zee Nation Festival is the brainchild of one of South Africa’s most loved female DJs – DJ Zinhle who celebrated 20 years in the music industry. The festival was held on Women’s Day, 9 August 2024 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec and is the ultimate showcase of music and lifestyle. The lineup featured the country’s top talent including MÖRDA, Young Stunna, Focalistic, Kwesta, and Cassper Nyovest, to name a few.
This was a tremendous opportunity for the company. Katlego drew inspiration from other grand-scale productions but added the unique Acoustic Star touch. “We wanted to deliver a world-class festival. We made sure we use the best products to achieve that level of quality and the feedback has been incredible, said Katlego.
The technical lighting equipment hired in for the show featured a grandMA full-size console with NPU, Robe BMFL RoboSpot systems, Robe Pointes, Robe LEDBeam 350s and Vari-Lite VLZs amongst other lighting equipment.
The L-Acoustics PA system included 36 K1, 24 Kara and 12 KUDO loudspeakers with 24 KS28 and 16 SB28 subs. The system was powered by 42 LA12X and 6 LA8 amplified controllers. System management was delivered by 4 P1 processors—two at front of house, one on stage, and one for delays.
