Derek Kruger, Workshop Manager at DWR Distribution, is enthusiastic about family, the race track and wolves. He joined DWR in 2010, and while he enjoys designing, he also likes the challenge of fixing things.
As a youngster, Derek realized that chemical engineering was not his forte. As evidence, he pulls up his sleeve to reveal a scar. “There are more,” he says. “It’s from an explosion when I was thirteen years old, and to be precise, I was making an explosive.” The apple does not fall far from the tree, and Derek’s only son has inherited his father’s intellect and enquiring mind.
Over weekends, Derek and his lovely wife Karen are regular volunteers at Huskyromi Wolf Sanctuary in Reitz, a non-profit organization that provides a safe haven for abandoned and abused huskies and wolves in South Africa. The aim is to promote and protect wolves and other wildlife. The sanctuary is open to the public and donations for the buying of food, veterinary bills and other expenses are always welcome. Derek has since adopted three wolves that reside there.
“I have always loved dogs,” he says. He has a much-loved Husky called Logan who has his parents wrapped around his paws – all for our them!
Derek regularly attends track days and he won’t deny the freedom and passion he feels when being on his motorbike.
