Roland Greil Workshops coming to South Africa

DWR Distribution is excited to announce a motivational lighting design workshop with the remarkable and talented Roland Greil. It’s not Roland’s first rodeo to the country, but even if you’ve attended his sessions before, you’ll walk away with knowledge, insight, and anticipation for your next show! Please save the date for Johannesburg (14 Feb), Durban (16 Feb), Gqeberha (21 Feb) or Cape Town (23 Feb). The event will be held from 2pm – 4pm, hosted free of charge and any interested is welcome to attend.

We asked Roland a few questions prior to his arrival.

Q: You are returning to South Africa. What makes our country special to you?

A: Actually, there are a lot of things that make me look forward to returning to one of my favorite countries in the world. Besides the great food and beautiful landscapes, foremost is to see all my South African friends again.

Q: The last year has been crazy busy in South Africa with the entertainment industry coming back to life after the pandemic. How has this period been for you?

A: After a soft restart in the second half of 2021, last year was super crazy with everybody heading out, doing shows and creating new ones. Even though challenging because of the workload, it has been such a positive upswing and restart for the whole industry worldwide.

Q: What career highlights have you enjoyed during the past two years?

A: I’m thankful that I had a few of those highlights after the pandemic. One of them, for sure, was to co-design the last ever tour for Genesis and seeing it out. Besides that, it is still an honor to work with the likes of The Rolling Stones, while there have been plenty of other projects that stood out…

Q: Can you give a brief description of the talk you will be presenting in South Africa?

I will be talking about the mysterious yet so lovely world of designing shows. We will be talking about the truth between budgets, the picture frame principle, as well as reality. Together we will be finding out  that less is more on nearly all occasions. Topics will include efficient workflow as well as creative approaches and how to put them into practice.
