DWR Distribution was delighted when Case Connection’s Dave Livesey and MGG’s Mark Gaylard shared some love at the recent SOS Charity Event and Auction when they created a remarkable flightcase – the kind most people would love to have in their warehouse! And, of course, it was all in support of a great cause.
Below, Dave Livesey shares a little more about the this rather special flightcase! 😊
“The Case Connection, in collaboration with our friends at MGG, is proud to have donated not one, but two custom Mobile Bar Flight Cases to the DWR‑run Industry SOS Foundation – because sometimes the best way to say ‘we’ve got your back’ is with an actual bar in a box… and apparently, once wasn’t enough.
Designed and manufactured as a one‑off passion project, the original case turns any loading dock, warehouse, or show site into a five‑star watering hole. Crafted from warm bamboo wood and finished with powder‑coated corner extrusions and fittings, it looks like a classic flight case… until the automatic lift mechanism raises the back section and the bar dramatically reveals itself.
Inside, you’ll find a fully kitted bar fridge, ice bucket, crystal glasses, and a line‑up of South Africa’s finest: good local wines, whisky, gin, Jägermeister, and good old KWV brandy, all ready to toast the crews who keep our industry alive. The interior is dressed with limited‑edition sparkling Shard material and stainless‑steel trim, because even a road case deserves to look red‑carpet ready.
For a bit of fun, we added a mini flight case housing bespoke, industry‑themed bar coasters – a small nod to the people behind the consoles, trusses, and trucks.
That first bar proved so popular on auction night that Josef Valchar from Robe Lighting snapped it up for R60,000 towards the foundation. Moments later, Andrew Bosman and Jonathan Bandli from Bad Weather fell so hard and pleaded with us to build them one too, and pledged a further R60,000 to SOS on the spot for the privilege.
We’ll admit, we were a little taken aback at first. We’d already donated the ‘one‑off’ original, and now we were being asked to sponsor a second build. But after a chat with Mark from MGG, and with his financial contribution towards the contents of the case, we were proud and honoured to create bar number two, tweaked just enough in the details to make it an original in its own right, not simply a copy.
Between the two auctions, this pair of bars raised R120,000 for the Industry SOS Foundation. We had an absolute blast building both, and we hope they bring a smile, a moment of connection, and the odd heroic rescue round to everyone supported by the foundation.
