Robin 600s for Silverstar

23 February 2011

Just over a year ago, the team at Silverstar Casino were blown away by ten Robin 300 Spots they had purchased. It was going to be difficult to beat the wow factor of this punchy light output captured in its light-weight casing.  Then in December 2010 Silverstar took ownership of a further four Robin 600s.     The new fixtures arrived just in time for Silverstar’s music review show, Papparazzi, which ran from December to February 2011. In fact, Lighting Designer JR Roughly from Vedatec had already started plotting prior to their arrival.     JR is quite honest when he admits to not being as surprised about the new lights as he had been with the 300 Spots. He knew what he was getting and just looked forward to the extra beam throw and intensity. “It has some strong points. The iris is quick, the focus and zoom is big and yes, it’s bright,” he said. “The 600s slot in nicely between the 700s and smaller fixtures.”

Providing the technical service to Silverstar is Unsung hero, Michael van Rensburg from IVTM (INHOUSE Venue Technical Management, part of the Gearhouse Group of Companies). “There are nice changes on the Robin 600 gobo set,” commented Michael. “The units are basically the same weight as a 300 and are nice to rig. The venue needed something with more intensity for FOH and that’s 10m from the stage.”

Silverstar’s theatre is in essence a conference room with a stage that has successfully been turned into a show venue. Productions are well attended and the quality of the venue is high. “The staff have done a great job of turning it into a show bar type theatre,” said JR.

Papparazzi, which enjoyed over an 80 percent attendance, JR stuck to his normal formulae when creating the show. Geometric beam patterns in the background with a use of vivid colour.
