Robe on Channel O

04 April 2011

Blond Productions used Robe for a live music production for DSTV’s Channel O, at Red Pepper Studios in Melville, Johannesburg. The lighting design was by Peter Rieck on a grandMA full size.

A live audience attended each of the four shows, run over two days in March 2011 and included performances by TKZee and other Kwaito type bands. Blond supplied the technical gear and worked closely with Dream Sets who built the set.

Peter Rieck with his grandMA and Oros Roux   “I had free reign on the lighting,” said Peter Rieck from Blond. “I had to interpret what the songs meant and then light accordingly. Each song had its own look and feel and there were about 16 songs per show.”

It was the first time Blond had used their new Robin 600 Beams for a television production and these six fixtures were placed on deck, creating, what Peter calls, perfect eye-candy. Also on deck were 12 Robe 250s. The Robe 575 Scanners were hung from the mother rig.

For control, Peter used a grandMA full size. “It’s something I wouldn’t change for the world,” said Peter. “It’s my wife away from home.”

Vivian “Oros” Roux, also from Blond, did the sound and backline. “When the two of us are on a show, it’s always a success, “ smiled Peter. “The client is always happy and say they can’t wait for the next one. Thank you Paul from Fuel Media for this opportunity.”
