TAKING PLACE AT THE DOME CONFERENCE CENTRE IN SWAKOPMUND, THE 2019 NAMIBIAN ANNUAL MUSIC AWARDS SEES ITS MOST AMBITIOUS PRODUCTION TO DATE. TPMEA REPORTS…

Widely acknowledged as the most successful event since the inaugural Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) in 2011, this year’s NAMAs took place on 9 September at The Dome in Swakopmund. With a wide range of eclectic performances, from an artist singing in a bubble-filled bathtub, to singers arriving on stage aboard motorbikes and horses, the technical had to be spot on to match the ambitious production.

While Swakopmund is a beautiful city in Namibia, nestled between a desert on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, the location was chosen for more practical reasons. The Dome Conference Centre is 100m long, 65m wide and 22m high at the apex, and was the only venue in the country able to cater for a show of this size, while the roof trusses, every 5m, were useful for rigging purposes.

For the fourth consecutive year, Michael Lehr of Eventplus played an instrumental role in the production. “I got on board with the event in 2015 as Production Manager, but since 2016 we have also taken on the production design, stage management, overall production management and all technical logistics and operation,” he explained. “Our client is Rockstar Namibia, and we worked closely with Jandre Louw, Executive Producer, whose artistic concept was to create a spectacular platform, extremely visual and LED dominated, with some very special stunt performances in the mix.”
