East London: Hemingways Casino, part of the Tsogo Sun Group, has a brand new multi-purpose facility named The Venue@Hemingways. This multi-purpose venue will be utilised for conferencing and banqueting functions, music concerts, entertainment and comedy shows, lifestyle events which will include various exciting expos, food and wine fairs and product launches, but to name a few.
DWR Distribution was commissioned to supply and install the necessary lighting equipment.
Djalita von Mollendorf, a specialised consultant from Mtshali Moss Projects Africa (MMPA) specified a LED solution. “They wanted a system that would be low maintenance, simple yet effective,” commented Dave Whitehouse from DWR.
While the time frame was tight, DWR met the deadline at the start of December 2012 when The Venue@Hemingways was opened which hosted various events including the “Pulse” ladies night, The Parlotones, Centerstage’s 80s Strictly Partytime show, Steve Hofmeyr and Carols in Concert.
The power requirements have been simplified with fixtures like Robin DLX Spots, Robin 300 LEDWashes, Robe LEDForce 18 RGBW, Longmans, MA on PC Wing and Philips Strand Dimmers. “The DLXs are really good as they are RGBW LEDs, and are exceptionally bright,” commented Whitehouse. “They don’t use colour wheels which makes them more efficient.”
The lightweight Robin 300 LED Wash, with a LED life expectancy of a minimum of 60.000 hours, offers smooth colour mixing and are ideal units when space and accessibility is an issue.
The bright LEDForce 18 RGBW Par Cans offer New Tri-color and Quad-color LED technology with first-rate color mixing, no multicolor shadows and 25°beam angle.
For haze in the venue, a Le Matire MVA Hazer was purchased.
The team chose the grandMA2 on PC software for control. This allows the programmer, on his notebook or PC, to have all the functions of a grandMA2 console.
Custom made FOH bars and two bars over the stage area, form part of the permanent installation. Prolyte Stage Dex, a product that is lightweight with high loading capacity, was used for the stage.
