Earlier this year Innibos was acknowledged as the most popular festival in South Africa and received KykNET’s Fiesta Award. With this feather in their cap, the Afrikaans festival went full steam ahead to present their ninth successful Innibos held from 26 – 29 June 2012 in Nelspruit and attended by 120 000 people.

Playing on the familiar saying, “a cat has nine lives” and being their ninth anniversary, the theme was aptly “Die kat kom weer” (the cat comes again).

Rental company Sound Headquarters  partnered with the organisers for the second consecutive year and provided the full technical for the main and Klipdrift stages.

“The first year was very stressful for us,” said Anrika Bruinders from Sound Headquarters. The greatest fear was the unknown. “This year we fine tuned the production, the sound was awesome and the lighting was amazing.” The most important aspect Sound Headquarters bring to a gig is their passion; that they partner with their client and that nothing is too difficult to ensure that all expectations and beyond are fully met.

As always, Murray Lubbe was the sound engineer for Innibos main stage. Johan Ferreira from JSF Productions was the LD for the seventh year working on a grandMA ultra-light. Johan provided Sound Headquarters with an equipment “wish list” and they tried to accommodate as much as possible. He beautifully lit performers Juanita du Plessis, Steve Hofmeyer, Snot Kop, Theuns Jordaan, Riana Nel and many others on the main stage.

“Johan has as a picture in his head of what he wants and is very committed, creative and disciplined,” explained Anrika. “We usually set up two to three days before the festival opens and on those days Johan sits till the early hours of the morning programming. He gets lost in his world… he lives for that. And when things don’t work out as planned Johan doesn’t get upset but works around it. He really is a team player.”     Sound Headquarters hired in additional gear from Blond Productions. Most of the lighting fixtures, including Robin 600 Beams and Washes and Robe 700 Spots were suspended from Prolyte trussing bars over the stage. Robe 250s were placed on deck. ClayPaky Sha rpies were positioned on totems at various levels on stage, and LED Bright Q were attached to the totems for effects lighting.     Still very novel, the Sharpies particularly impress first time users. “After this show I said I could never do another Innibos without them,’ laughs Johan. He particularly liked the prism and extra beam effects the Sharpies offer.  “But the interesting thing is that the 600 Beams coped well on stage,” he added.

Sound Headquarters started set up on the 20th June. Alvin Bruinders, owner of Sound Headquarters, likes to have enough time to peacefully put the gig together and not put too much pressure on his team.

“Innibos is a high point in Alvin’s life,” says Anrika. “He is like a little boy with new toys, he can’t wait to set up and is very emotional.” Alvin has been seen with glossy eyes as he stands in FOH, a big smile on his face.

If you haven’t attended Innibos before, be sure not to miss next year’s tenth celebration. “The entertainment value is amazing,” ended Johan.   Lighting Equipment:
