GoodLuck

25 May 2012

South African band, GoodLuck, are making waves! In May 2012 they put together their first self-promoted and conceptualised concert at SunCoast, Durban, utilizing 50 new Longman Stagebars.   GoodLuck are heading for Europe – we hope to add their news in the near future! Thank you to lead singer Jules (Juliet Harding) who dropped us an e-mail. She writes:

“We were dreaming about lights for months before we had the capacity to approach DWR Distribution and imagining how our first self-made production would turn out. We have to say that the 12th of May at Suncoast in Durban was all that and so much more!

Firstly we got ‘lucky’ with the weather (which can be a make or break factor in Durban), secondly the Sharks won the rugby 2 hours before the event, and thirdly, we had a crowd second-to-none on this, our first concert in SA.

In the weeks leading up to the event we had a meeting with Robert Izzett from DWR and he showed us around the showroom and took us through our various options with lighting. We were blown away by the service and friendliness but mostly by how organised and awesome the showroom is!     Once we had decided on a route, and the lights were on their way down to Durban, we were in the hands of Nick Barnes from the DWR Durban branch. What a STAR he was! Not only did he spend hours helping our lighting and techs by prepping and programming the lights the day before the show, but he also gave up his entire evening to assist us at the party. Not a lot of people in the world love what they do so much they will give up their free time, but Nick is one of those people and we are so grateful to him for his assistance and general positive energy!

Then it was showtime… and here I will leave the pictures to speak for themselves! Our aim to use curved truss to create a linear wave of DMX-controllable light bars sprung to life and we were suddenly transported to a sort of outta-space-Ibiza… SO EPIC! The feedback from the audience was astounding and we never imagined in our wildest dreams that we would be able to pull this off, especially given we had 2 days with the lights and not much knowledge on how to make it happen.

We are so grateful to DWR for having our back! We both have a vision for the level of production we see coming out of South Africa and we look forward to achieving those goals one incredible concert at a time.

Many thanks again to all!!

X Jules
