You know you’re getting old (or perhaps running around with five year olds too much) when people talk about the Matric Rage Festival 2009 and you look all confused… what’s that?   Well, East Coast Productions are a step ahead and know exactly what Rage is all about. They did the Wave House, one of the festival’s leg of the tour, during December  and to show off just how technically advanced they are, they made use of their two brand new Vari*Lite VLX Wash lights. East Coast Productions are the first in the country to purchase VLXs. Around 3 500 guests attended the “bang bang” music event, which is exactly what it’s all about.     DWR met with Neil Nadauld, owner of East Coast Productions and his dynamic team, Lighting Designer Jacques Marais, the funky girl who makes sure everything happens as it should Jennifer Deegan, Sound Technician Chris Graham and passionate Morris Riley. They were all equally blown away by the VLX Fixtures. Said Jacques, “The units are brilliant…yes, amazing lights. The colours are warm and any other wash light has nothing on these.”   Neil was proud to include his Beta Acoustics Line Array to the rig, “and we know how to use it,” he adds. In addition East Coast Productions hope to purchase an additional two VLXs early in the new year.     The Matric Rage festival gives school leavers two weeks of party non-stop. Large clubs in Umhlanga, Ballito and Durban participate and top DJs like Euphonik, Roger Goode, Lady Lea, DJ Fresh and a string of others play at these venues. Matric passports, obtainable at a price tag of about R800, enable the party goers to gain access to all the participating clubs and in addition there is also a shuttle service made available to them.
