DWR Distribution were pleased to supply and install 48 Anolis ArcSource 3 RGBs and an Anolis ArcControl 1024 at Montecasino in Fourways. The LED fixtures are set up in the pit area where the game tables are situated.
Declan Randall from Congo Blue worked closely with Montecasino’s David Butcher to come up with an appropriate lighting design. Montecasino is a popular Tuscan styled entertainment and casino destination in Johannesburg. Pillars with wooden beams and greenery form part of the décor in the pit area, creating a vineyard type atmosphere. Declan opted to illuminated the pillars with an LED solution.
Declan comments, “Our brief was to devise a lighting solution that would enhance the area around Pit 1 and attract people’s attention as they walk past, but not to the point that it becomes a distraction for the players. Using the existing pillars as the focal point was the obvious choice as they are such a strong feature in that area. We wanted to make use of a lighting system that would be eye-catching, give us as much flexibility as possible, be low maintenance and of course be energy efficient. We wanted each fitting to be individually addressed so that we could have greater control over the final effect. 
“Whilst the end result is primarily a subtle cross-fade from colour to colour, and I think we programmed about 38 different colours, the system is capable of something a lot more “flashy” should it ever be required. The design and installation also makes provision for theming – we can have red for Valentine’s Day, green for St Patrick’s Day and so on, but in between the themed events, the subtle cross-fading colour sequence runs continuously. LED was an obvious choice for the lighting solution to this area as the technology allowed us to tick all the boxes in terms of our brief and requirements.
“Anolis fittings gave us the output that we needed in an attractive, compact fitting. Some of the programming of the sequence was done off-site on an offline lighting software editor and was then uploaded to the control system on site, with only a few minor tweaks being needed before the handover to the client.”
DWR Distribution was awarded the tender to supply the Anolis ArcSourse 3 RGBs. “The fixtures had to be mounted and we made up custom brackets,” explained Robert Izzett from DWR. “As we only had limited time on site we prepared as much as possible. The total install took about ten hours.”
DMX control to the lighting is by an Anolis ArcControl 1024. This is a basic control unit that allows colour changing.
