Roxette rock in SA

10 June 2011

A special word of thanks to Heidi Janse van Rensburg for the stunning concert pics taken by Paul Pearce of Studio 27 .
Roxette performed to seven sold out concerts in Cape Town and Sun City on their recent tour to South Africa, forming part of their 2011 World Tour. Gearhouse South Africa, commissioned by Big Concerts, was the technical supplier and support team. The show was run off a grandMA2. George Majola and Anthony Banks, Gearhouse South Africa   We spoke to Anthony Banks, Gearhouse Project Manager for the show. “It was actually a good tour,” he said. With a day in between most shows, it was fairly relaxed. “To hear what  Marie Fredriksson’s has recovered from – a brain tumour – you realize that she has come a long way,” said Anthony. “When you observe her on stage, you could tell that the crowd uplifted her.”

The energy at the concert was tangible but of course was complemented by the reassurance of a great technical team – well done Gearhouse. Roxette travel with their tour manager, production manager, audio crew and an LD  / operator and their own audio desks and mics. “I had a chat to the LD,” said Anthony. “He has four variations of the lighting rig depending on where they are playing and what equipment is being used. He travelled with his own grandMA2 and we brought ours along as a back-up console.”

The LD linked the grandMA2 to his tablet. “He was programming on stage and to me it was a different head space to what I’m used to,” said Anthony. “It was nice to see.”

The Gearhouse Lighting Crew Head was George Majola. “It was a normal rig, not big and straight forward,” said George. “I enjoyed it.”

We received extra photos from Muhammad Faithullah Harun – thank you!
