The Alberton LewenSentrum, a place of worship in Alberton Johannesburg, recently added to their lighting retinue. Emmanuel Mc Grath from The Art of Noise headed the installation and also recommended that the church purchase an Avolites Titan. We asked him a couple of questions.
What was your involvement?
I had installed an HK sound system for Music Mate in this venue some time ago and had mentioned that we could fix up their original lighting which comprised of 3x 300W Profiles on hot power and 6x halogen security spotlights. Recently I was contracted to install the LED Lighting, 24 LED Pars and 8 LED Movers (Chauvet stuff) by Music Mate Cresta, as I am the preferred installer for the Music Mate Group. The account was managed by Graham Mc Kay, owner of the store.
You decided on an Avolites Titan for control. Why was this your choice?
I was asked to find a desk that would fit the budget and work on the LED Pars and the LED Movers, so I called my ‘Favourite Lampy’ (Duncan Riley, DWR Distribution). I then called my favourite lighting designer, Kevin Stannett, who has installed many houses of worship with me, to program the Titan and to teach the client how to use it.
Kevin Stannett Churches are continually becoming more technically advanced. What will the Alberton LewenSentrum mostly use this console for and do you find that the operators are enthusiastic and keen to learn?
This place of worship produces some large shows with guest speakers throughout the year. The operators have started to play more with the Titan, and I have only heard good stuff from them.
Did they find it easy enough to operate?
I think so, but the major problem we faced was that they are used to working on MAC and had to relearn PC to control the Titan.
Any additional feedback you may have.
I have found over the past 26 years of being in SA that the Rileys from Dan (in the Lamphouse days) to Duncan , (even Bruce Riley) have been the most helpful anytime I have called, but I am upset that they don’t give me any work on installs, as I am God’s favourite installer!!!!!!!!!!!!!
