SLMC 2012

15 August 2012

SLMC – Stage Lighting Master Class – is a two-day master class about the art and craft of stage lighting design, and is the only event of its kind in South Africa.  This year it will take place in Johannesburg at the Market Theatre Laboratory on the 27th and 28th September 2012 and will be in Cape Town at the Artscape Opera Stage on the 2nd & 3rd October 2012. DWR Distribution and Philips Selecon are delighted to be one of the sponsors for this popular event.

SLMC was first held in 2001 and then again in 2004 and 2007. After a long break, it is finally returning!  The course is aimed at anyone who is interested in stage lighting and theatre, from technicians and designers, to stage managers, event crew, directors, choreographers and students.

Participants need not have any previous knowledge about lighting design, as everything is covered from the basics to the more advanced design techniques. It does not matter whether you work primarily in theatre, live events, television or corporate entertainment, SLMC is a great event and a fantastic opportunity to meet other people in your industry and network with professional designers and product suppliers from around the world.

This year there is a large focus on LED lighting and technology and the use of LED in current stage design. With LED becoming more and more prevalent, we will share some of the things we have learned in using LED as “another tool in the designer’s toolbox”.

This year we are thrilled to announce that Richard Pilbrow (international theatre lighting legend) will be joining the panel of South African lighting designers, Declan Randall and Mannie Manim.

We will be showcasing some of the latest technology and design techniques and you will have the opportunity to meet and talk to the designers as well as the product distributors and sponsors of the event.
