SA Business Awards

04 May 2013

Celebrating the best South African companies, their products and services as well as the people behind them, the South African Premier Business Awards 2012 / 2013, a proudly South African event, was hosted in The Pavilion venue at the Sandton Convention Centre in March this year.

Keystone Productions were asked by their client Outlaw, to design the set and provide the technical for this lavish black-tie affair. MGG Productions assisted with the supply of lighting gear, while the set was constructed by Stage Works. Mark West was the Choreographer and Cap Events the Creative Director.     With a distinct African flavour, the awards embraced performances by the 26 piece Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Zahara, The Three Afro Tenors and three sets by the world-acclaimed theatre production, Africa Umoja.

The set had a clean and unpretentious feel with vinyl covering arch like structures which served as a canvas on which to paint with light. Robe was the predominant fixture used on the event, but other brands included Clay Paky, Philips Vari-Lite and Martin units.

The gauze set backdrop was raised near the closing of the evening to reveal the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. The stage piece from where they performed was automated, and propelled the band forward towards a resounding ovation.     “There were no challenges with this event,” commented Christopher Bolton of Keystone. “We planned properly, it worked and our client is over the moon. I would like to thank our logistical genius and Production Manager, Jonathan Le Roux. As you can imagine, things can get massively complicated.”

Bolton ends, “I love the fact that on every new job, you are able to take all the knowledge gained over the years to create something special.”
