Deeper Christian Life Ministry in Accra, the capital city of Ghana, have purchased a GDS system from South African distributor, DWR Distribution, for their 20 000 seater church, one of many branches throughout Africa.
The church building has taken some twenty years to build and the brief from the client was simple. To have a lighting system that would not be flamboyant, but would provide white light for church services and for camera work, as many meetings are recorded for television.
Johnny Scholtz from DWR Distribution was asked by GDS to oversee the project. “Power was something everyone had to consider when deciding on which product to utilize,” said Johnny. The power grid in Accra is often on for 12 hours and off for 24 hours. Deeper Christian Life Ministry run off a large generator.
“GDS fixtures are energy efficient and don’t draw much power,” explained Johnny. “We used the GDS ArcSystem Pro 4 Cell Round for the main auditorium, ArcSystem Décor Pro 1Cell for the Wings, and in the pulpit area the ArcSystem Pro 8 Cell and 4 Cell Squares. This was linked to ArcSystem 8 Button Panels which controlled the entire system.”
Deeper Christian Life Ministry requested that their staff complete the installation. “Even though they were electricians they had never worked on a wireless system before,” said Johnny. He and John Blamey from GDS, provided training and guided the team on the installation. Paul Johnson from GDS designed the system.
“They were very happy with the end result, “said Johnny. “GDS is an amazing product, and it’s backed up with a guarantee of 50 000 hours.”
Interesting facts about Accra: The temperature ranges between 24° and 30°, with a humidity that can peak to 95% . The greatest obstacle is the language barrier. That said, Accra became independent in 1957, and while it is a poor country, the people are friendly and peaceful.
