MJ shine at Product of the Year 2015

For the fourth year, MJ Event Gear provided the full technical for Product of the Year 2015 held on the 5^th February 2015 in Johannesburg. Product of the Year is the world’s largest consumer-voted award for product innovation and currently operates in 40 countries with the purpose of guiding consumers to the best products in their market and to reward manufacturers for quality and innovation.

The South African Awards were hosted at Summer Place, a graceful venue in the heart of Hyde Park, Gauteng. Working closely with their client, Edith Venter of Edith Unlimited, MJ were given full creativity rights to provide lighting for the outdoor area comprising of an exquisite garden, swimming pool, and Bedouin tent, and more importantly, for the prestigious awards ceremony.

Lighting Designer Olebogeng Boinamo from MJ created an upbeat show on an Avolites Tiger Touch II, incorporating Robin 600 LEDWash, Robe 300 E Spot and Robin 100 LEDBeams. The Tiger Touch II represents a combination of power and portability. This third generation console is packed with enough power for complex shows, yet small enough to fly in standard hold luggage. The console features SMPTE timecode support and a redesigned button layout to match the entire Titan Range.

Needless to say, MJ’s Robins are their reliable workhorses used on most gigs. The Robin 300 E Spots is a neat punchy profile with large linear zoom, the Robin 100 LEDBeam is the ultimate effects lighting tool for the creation of various colour chases, while the Robin 600 LED Wash has a colour output ranging from gentle pastels to the richest saturation.

The evening entertainment included the Blue Bamboo band, DJ Pascal and Pearce and comedian and MCs for the event, Jason and Donovan Goliath.

At MJ all events are backed up with a strong team. This event was successful thanks to Boinamo, Jan van Boordt (crew boss and AV Operator), Joe Hatla (Sound Engineer), Daniel Borane (backline technician) and of course Theo Rood, project manager of the event.

Rood knew he had done something right after receiving a note from the client, Preetesh Sewraj, CEO and Chief Innovation Analyst from Product of the Year.
